Callahan Soccer Club (CSC) exists to provide a family-friendly environment where kids of Nassau County have a place to play and learn the great game of soccer.
CSC Believes in the following:
- Having fun – The number one reason to play soccer is to have fun. To promote the enjoyment, we will create a positive environment that encourages equal participation and helps players perform to the best of their ability.
- Player Development – We aim to create a fun and challenging environment where players can learn and develop their soccer skills.
- Safety first – We believe it is essential to maintain a safe and age-appropriate environment by having rules and policies in place that protect our players.
Player Development Objectives (PDO) & Coaching Priorities
- Establish clear and age-appropriate player development objectives that help our coaches, players, and parents know what we are working together to accomplish.
- Establish age-appropriate coaching priorities and focus areas in the four elements of the game (technical, tactical, psychological, and physical).
- Ensure consistency among our club and soccer community so that our teaching is streamlined and helps players perform at the next level.
- Develop confident and prepared coaches to teach and meet player development objectives.

Division One A 4-5 year olds & Division One B 6-7 years old
CSC has adopted the USSF heading guidelines for all ages under 13 to limit player exposure to head injuries and concussions. CSC also follows the FYSA concussion disclosure and treatment guidelines.
CSC is obligated to all participants and cannot allow certain types of behavior. If parents, spectators, coaches, or players display inappropriate behaviors, the CSC Board of Directors will handle it swiftly. At its sole discretion, the CSC Board of Directors may prohibit anyone from participating in or attending its events if they breach the CSC policies and procedures.
CSC has outlined the “Laws of the Game” per division and is posted for review at the concession stand. The laws outline basic information regarding each division and playoff rules and are subject to change.
Parents must always respect CSC fields, spectators, coaches, and players; this means that all CSC equipment, fields, and concession stand area must be kept clean and in order at all times.
CSC has a lighting detector for our players and volunteers' safety. The sensor will sound, and a light on the detector will blink if the lighting is detected within 10 miles of the fields. The detector will continue and blink until a 20-minute time frame is completed without additional lighting strikes. The sensor will not sound again until the threat is clear.
If the lighting detector is triggered by sounding or the light is blinking on the sensor, all practices, play, or field presence must be discontinued until the lighting detector has given all clear. The all-clear is when the light on the sensor has ceased blinking and or the detector has given three solid sounds.
If the lighting detector isn't working and you hear or see lighting or thunder, all practices, play, or field presence must be discontinued.
- Our coaches are volunteers and strive to teach soccer according to the CSC objectives.
- Our coaches have varying degrees of soccer experience and are provided with coaches' training and resources.
- Our coaches are expected to show Character, Leadership, and Responsibility.
- Our coaches expect their players to do their best, show respect to everyone, and have fun.
- Our coaches deserve to be respected at all times by players, parents, and spectators.
- Our referees have varying soccer experience and are provided with referee training and resources.
- Our referees are expected to show Character, Leadership, and Responsibility.
- Our referees expect players, coaches, parents, and spectators to show respect to everyone and enjoy the games.
- Our referees deserve to be respected at all times by players, parents, and spectators. If any dissension or aggression is shown towards a referee, the party will be asked to leave; if the behavior happens again, the party will be banned from attending CSC functions.
Equipment:
- All players must wear proper shin guards to every practice and every game. Hard surfaces of shin guards must be covered with socks. This will be checked every game by our Referees.
- Only proper soccer cleats may be worn (ex., no baseball or football cleats because they have a front cleat that is dangerous when kicking). Only rubber cleats are allowed; no metal cleats are permitted. This will be checked every game by our Referees.
- No jewelry (including new piercings), hair clips, metal devices (i.e., knee braces), or hazardous equipment may be worn. This will be checked every game by our Referees.
- Each player should bring a water bottle or drink to games and practices.
- All Players must wear the appropriate attire at all times. This includes shorts that extend the length of the leg to the end of the player's fingertips. On all Game days, players must wear the CSC uniform.
- Each player should have a stitched ball (as opposed to a hard seamless ball) of proper size. (Soccer balls come in 3 sizes: 3, 4, 5). Look for a stamp that says either “official size & weight” or “FIFA Approved.” Even if a ball is an official weight, some balls are heavier & more complex than others. Please don’t get a too heavy or hardball, as it will inhibit your child's desire to kick it. If you have a choice, a shiny and waterproof surface is best because it won’t absorb water & will last longer. See all sizes by division below:
- D-1 (A&B) Ages 4 to 7 - will use size 3
- D-2 Ages 8 to 10 - will use size 4
- D-3 Ages 11 to 13 - will use size 5
- D-4 Ages 14 to 18 - will use size 5
Expected Behavior:
By Parents:
POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT IS WELCOMED, BUT NEGATIVE COMMENTS ARE NOT
- Parents are spectators! Parents are not coaches or referees. Cheering is good, but do not yell at your child or anyone else's child during the game. It can be distracting, and what you tell them may differ from what the coaches teach. If you want to be a coach, you can register with our head coach for next season.
- Be careful not to say anything that might be taken the wrong way or hurt someone’s feelings. Remember: this is for fun, and these are CHILDREN, not MLS soccer.
- Be a good adult role model by showing good character and sportsmanship.
- CSC has a strict spectator ethics policy. Parents are not allowed to address the coaches, players, other spectators/parents, or referees in a disrespectful, aggressive, or detrimental manner. Parents, coaches, players, & spectators will never use abusive or insulting language and will treat everyone with dignity.
- Referee's calls are not to be questioned or manipulated. Our referees are imperfect and will make mistakes, but they command the field, and their calls stand. Please speak with a board member if you have any issues with a coach or referee.
- Please do not boo the other team or cheer when they make a mistake. Encourage and show respect to everyone.
- If a parent violates any of the CSC expected behaviors or other CSC policies, they will be asked to leave. If the behavior continues, they cannot participate in any CSC functions.
- Anyone on the CSC fields or facility areas shall not possess, consume or distribute before, during, or after any game or at any other time at the field and/or game complex alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, or unauthorized prescription drugs.
- Sitting behind the coach/player's beaches or goals is prohibited.
By Players:
- Everyone must show respect and follow all directions given by the coaches, assistant coaches, referees, and CSC leadership
- Everyone must work hard and do their best
- CSC expects everyone to be a good sport whether your team wins or loses (this includes parents)
- No cursing, name-calling, or physical altercations allowed.
- Disruptive or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
- If a player violates any of the CSC expected behaviors or other CSC policies, they will be asked to leave. If the behavior continues, they will not be allowed to participate in any CSC functions, and no refunds will be issued.
- If a player is issued a red card in play. The CSC board members will decide their future playtime.
- Cheering is good, but do not yell at parents, spectators, coaches, players, or refs at any time.
- Be careful not to say anything that might be taken the wrong way or hurt someone’s feelings. Remember: this is for fun, and this is a youth sport.
- Be a good adult role model by showing good character and sportsmanship.
- At all times, a coach must show ethics. You are influencing young children.
- Referee's calls are not to be questioned or manipulated. Our referees are imperfect and will make mistakes, but they command the field, and their calls stand. Please speak with a board member if you have any issues with a referee.
- Don’t boo the other team or cheer when they make a mistake. Encourage and show respect to everyone.
